하나님께 가까이 함이 내게 복이라(시편73:28)

Joseph left this message to his brothers before he died.

“I am about to die. But God will surely come to your aid and take you up out of this land to the land he promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob."

In fact Joseph’s brothers shouldn’t be deserved God’s cares and His blessings if we just focused on the evil things that they’ve done to Joseph. They were afraid of a revenge from Joseph when their father, Jacob died but Joseph gave them comfort instead. He could be a comfort to them because Joseph totally believed and trusted that all of his journey was made in God’s plan. Moreover he reminded his brothers a covenant that God promised to the Israelites.

This covenant is the relationship between God and His people and represents God’s love and sincerity to us. We people often break the relationship with God but He never breaks His promises. Therefore if we are living out in God’s covenant throughout our worship and following the God’s word, He will be pouring out His grace of salvation and taking care of us until the end.

요셉은 죽음을 앞두고 그의 형제들에게 말했습니다.

“나는 죽을 것이나 하나님이 당신들을 돌보시고 당신들을 이 땅에서 인도하여 내사 아브라함과 이삭과 야곱에게 맹세하신 땅에 이르게 하시리라”

사실 요셉의 형제들은 그들이 요셉에게 한 행동을 본다면 하나님의 돌봄을 받을 자격이 있지는 않습니다. 그리고 그들 스스로도 이 사실을 잘 알았기에 그들의 아버지인 야곱이 죽었을 때 요셉이 자신들에게 보복을 할까 두려워하기도 했습니다. 그러나 요셉은 그의 형제들을 위로했습니다. 왜냐하면 그는 이 모든 것이 하나님의 계획 속에 있었음을 알고 있었기 때문입니다. 그리고 요셉은 자신의 죽음이 가까웠을 때 이민 생활을 하는 그들을 위해 하나님과 이스라엘 사이에 맺은 언약을 상기시키며 그의 형제들을 안심시킵니다.

이 언약은 하나님과 우리들의 관계이고, 이것은 하나님의 사랑과 신실하심을 나타냅니다. 우리 인간은 쉽게 하나님과의 관계를 깨버리지만, 하나님은 그렇지 않으십니다. 우리가 예배와 말씀을 통하여 하나님의 지속적인 언약 안에 거한다면, 하나님께서 이스라엘 백성에게 하신 것처럼 우리를 끝까지 돌보시고 구원의 은혜를 경험하게 하실 것입니다.
