12:1-8 “Perfume”
Mary
took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus'
feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the
fragrance of the perfume.
Jesus
said it was intended and she saved the perfume for the day of his burial.
After
this happening all the people who were in the house with Jesus might remember
him every time they smell the same scent. Men have five senses and the sense of
smell reminds people their old memories. This story is important not because
the perfume was pricy like the way Judas thought but it is because we could
remember the death and the Resurrection of Jesus Christ through the perfume.
We
Christians have no expensive things, but we wish we could be used as a perfume for
people to remember who Jesus was and Jesus is and will be.
마리아는 향유를 예수님의 발에 붙고 자신의
머리털로 예수님의 발을 닦아 드렸습니다. 집안은 온통 향내로 가득했습니다. 예수님께서는 이것이 예수님의 장례를 위한 것이라고 말씀하셨습니다.
아마도 당시 예수님과 함께 집안에 있었던 사람들은
이후 이 향내 맡을 때마다 예수님을 기억할 것입니다. 왜냐하면 인간의 오감 중 하나인 후각은 기억을
떠올리기 때문입니다. 이 이야기가 우리에게 중요한 것은 가롯유다가 생각했듯이 향유가 값비싼 것이라는
것 때문이 아니라 향유를 통해 우리가 예수님의 죽으심과 부활을 기억하게 하기 때문입니다.
우리에게는 값비싼 것들이 없습니다. 하지만 우리가 가진 것들이 마치 향유처럼 예수님을 기억하도록 하는 일에 쓰임 받았으면 좋겠습니다.
